United States Military Academy

The United States Military Academy (USMA), commonly known as West Point, is an undergraduate college in West Point, New York that educates and commissions officers for the United States Army. Established in 1802 and sitting on a scenic plateau overlooking the Hudson River, West Point is the oldest continuously-occupied military post in the United States. Since its founding, USMA has trained the finest officers, from presidents George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant, to General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, and currently produces more than 1,000 commissioned officers each year to serve the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. Prospective cadets must first receive a nomination and then pass mini-physical test exam. Classes consist of a core curriculum of classes in engineering, humanities and military sciences, which are supplemented with physical, leadership and military training. Graduating cadets receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army.
