Mississippi State University is a public land-grant research university in Starkville, Mississippi. It is the flagship university of the state of Mississippi. Founded in 1878, the university has an enrollment of more than 19,000 students making it one of the largest universities in the state. Mississippi State offers an array of academic programs across nine colleges and schools. The university is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a “Doctoral/Research University-Extensive” and is among the top research universities in the nation. Mississippi State is home to nationally ranked academic programs, such as the flagship College of Engineering, the MBA Program in the College of Business and the Speech and Hearing Clinic in the College of Education. Additionally, the university hosts a number of highly rated intercollegiate and intramural sports programs.
